I’ve had the pleasure of working within the video game space and collaborating with clients such as Lucas Arts, Nintendo, EA, Xbox, Playstation, and Pokémon. I view video games as an art form of artistic expression infused with technology.

My role as an Art Director was overseeing microsites and social media promoting new game releases. I led teams in interactive design, animation, and the development of marketing campaigns implementing the latest web technologies. Due to the nature of game development and their production timelines, we often developed campaigns with limited assets that were restricted to a logo, video trailer, general plot outline, and occasionally key art of the box or package.

Challenge

Limited assets and timeframe

Oftentimes the game was actively in development, so the average asset pack was the logo and key art

Solution

Creation from scratch

Extrapolate from static assets to build original designs while trying different ways to create an immersive experience

Innovation

Tap into the latest tech

Design and build around the latest development frameworks and programming languages

Nintendo Microsites

Here’s a sample gallery of some Nintendo campaigns that were designed and built with just a vector logo and layered box art file.

  • Average 3-week turnaround time from concept to final design

  • Websites had to be designed to work in Nintendo Wii & DS browsers

Professor Layton

To capture the investigative nature of this puzzle adventure game, we hid mystery elements and interactive hotspots throughout the site design. We also created an element of time and discovery by allowing the user to interact with a street clock and instantly transition the site from night to day and unlock a whole new set of discoverable elements.
